Lidl Hungary has unveiled its largest warehouse in the country with the launch of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, following a substantial investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million. This facility is set to become a pivotal hub for the retailer, supplying around 70 Lidl stores across Hungary.
The expansive logistics center spans over 83,000 square meters and has already generated more than 400 new jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees in the near future. A key feature of the center is its 194 loading docks and a substantial 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, underscoring Lidl’s commitment to efficient supply chain operations.
Incorporating sustainable technology, the facility boasts a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation and a system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating. Additionally, the site includes a 10,000-square-meter area dedicated to biodiversity, enhancing the environmental footprint of the logistics center.
The center is poised to enhance Lidl’s nationwide supply capabilities, with a daily dispatch of approximately 4,500 pallets of goods anticipated. This development aligns with Lidl’s strategy to strengthen its domestic operations and support its ongoing expansion across Hungary, where it currently operates 220 stores.
With nearly 60% of its products sourced from Hungarian suppliers, Lidl’s new logistics center is expected to bolster its supply network and facilitate its growth within the Hungarian market, ensuring a robust and efficient distribution of goods to its stores.
